Sports Bras for Large Breasts

If you are a woman with large breasts and you are planning on doing any exercise more energetic than a casual stroll then it is a good idea to consider a sports bra.

The Australian Institute of Sport recently conducted a study for a lingerie company to help them to develop a better sports bra.

For the first time they had a volunteer athlete that was a 16DD.

The volunteer ran on a treadmill at 13 kilometres an hour with eight infra-red camera beams focusing on small silver circles taped to her nipples, clavicle and left shoulder.

The vertical movement was recorded at 16.5 centimetres!!! More than double the previously recorded average bounce factor of eight centimetres.

Now compare your size to hers…..if your breasts are larger than DD cup then it is likely that they would bounce MORE than 16.5 centimetres…..no wonder large breasts sag!

The other reason that you should have a sports bra is the pain factor. Think about it….do you think it would hurt if your breasts were bouncing 16.5 centimetres? I think it would be painful if they only bounce 8 centimetres.

Here is a list of factors to consider when you are purchasing a sports bra:

1. Smooth seamless cups can prevent irritation or bruising

2. If the sports bra is loose it can result in chafing so make sure that it is a snug fit. A sports bra will feel tighter than a normal bra.

3. Try to find a sports bra that has the tags and straps covered by fabric so that they don’t dig into your skin.

4. Make sure that the sports bra has wide shoulder straps so that they don’t dig in.

5. If this is the first time that you are purchasing a sports bra brand make sure that you either try it on or that the store you are buying from has a returns policy.

6. When you try on the bra for the first time, you should jump up and down with your hands on top of your breast to check how much movement there is.

7. You should also try to simulate the type of exercise that you will be doing to make sure that the bra is comfortable. For example, if you are going to be running, try running on the spot. If you are going to be playing basketball or similar try jumping up and down and moving your arms over your head as if you are shooting the ball.

8. If you lose or gain more than 5 kilos it is important that you be remeasured for a new sports bra as it is possible that yours will now be too big!

My absolute favourite sports bra is the Enell. Some of you might have seen it on Oprah about 12 months ago, but if not any of the companies listed on the shopping page have a review of the Enell.

There is now a wide range of sports bras for women with large breasts and it does all come down to individual choice.

But please don’t for one minute think that there are no options for you and you should just stick to your normal bra when you are exercising!
