Gynecomastia – Men with Man Boobs

It happens.

Men grow breasts, most commonly known as Man Boobs. But not all man boobs are the same!!

Gynecomastia is a medical term that usually occurs to babies, teenagers and elderly. It is an excessive growth of the breast tissue.

Gynecomastia in baby boys (and girls) is caused by the leftover hormones from their mother but usually disappears not long after birth.

When a boy hits puberty, his hormones go crazy and this can cause breast tissue to grow abnormally. Overweight men also have breasts but these are because of the fat deposits under their skin and not because of growing breast tissue. In their case, if they lose weight, their man boobs will also go.

Above is a picture of well developed breasts on a man. The breasts don’t usually grow as large as female breasts but as you can see, they can still cause embarrassment and discomfort.

As well as being overly developed, the breasts are commonly very tender or itchy.

The breasts shown above are on a man in his 30s. Man boobs on a male that is past puberty but not yet elderly should be taken seriously.

They can be caused by any of the following:

- No particular reason

- Obesity

- Weight following a lengthy period of being overweight

- Medications including hormones

- Chronic kidney disease

- Chronic liver disease

- HIV treatment

- Spinal cord injury

- Post starvation eating

- Performance enhancing supplements that encourage estrogen production

- Prostate cancer medication

- Marijuana use

- Hyperthyroidism

- Cirrhosis of the liver

- Genetic disorders such as Klinefelter Syndrome

- Steroid use

What to do?

The first obvious thing to do is make sure the body is within a healthy weight range. The second thing if this is a baby or teenager, is to relax! The majority of teenage boys’ breasts flatten and the swelling usually goes within a year or two.

If this is a post pubescent male, then a visit to the doctor is definitely in order! This will ensure that the condition is not being caused by an underlying disease or conditions and to check that any medication being taken is not contributing.

If the doctor advises that there are no medical reasons for the gynecomastia then there are three options:

1. Surgery. Liposuction and breast reduction surgery, depending on the severity, can both be very successful in reshaping the breast area and removing the excess breast tissue.

2. Wearing a male support vest that will hold the breasts firm during the day.

3. Using a supplement like Ultimate Gynemax to reduce the size of the breasts. Click here to read about how Ultimate Gynemax can help.
