Choosing a Breast Reduction or Breast Lift surgeon.....
If you are considering breast surgery for either a breast lift or a breast reduction you need to make sure the plastic surgeon that you choose is a board certified surgeon and a member of the national society of plastic surgeons. What is board certification? Board certification means that the plastic surgeon has met nationally and internationally set standards for plastic surgery. This is your guarantee that the surgeon that you approach has been properly trained in plastic surgery and will be able to perform the procedure you are after. How do they get board certification? After graduating from medical school the surgeon has to undergo several years of further study involving written and oral exams plus residency. What is the difference between a board certification and member of a society of plastic surgeons? To become a member of a society of plastic surgeons, first they must be board certified. Then they must commit to following certain health and safety standards and also MORE training and education. If you are looking for a plastic surgeon you can approach the national society of plastic surgeons in your country and know that this person is highly trained and qualified for the type of breast surgery you are after.

The Association of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgoens of Southern Africa
If you do an internet search for Society of Plastic Surgeons in your country you will be able to find your national association. Making sure that a plastic surgeon is board certified and a member of their national society of plastic surgeons is only the first step. You also need to make sure that they have had specialized training in breast surgery and that they have actual experience in performing either a breast reduction or a breast lift. Most surgery will occur either at the surgeons office or an outpatient surgical facility but you do need to make sure that the surgeon you choose is also able to perform the procedure you are after in a local hospital. Why? Because a surgeon who is on a hospital staff and is able to perform that surgery at a local hospital has had her training and qualifications reviewed by the hospital’s own board of medical specialists!
